Whether the law continues to allow abortion or not, abortion remains a moral issue. Just because the government creates laws for or against various social acts and programs does not automatically deem them as being right or wrong. When it comes to morals, individuals make their own decisions, outside of the governments’ mandate, and the morality of abortion is very simple; DO YOU BELIEVE ABORTION IS MURDER OR NOT?
How you answer this determines whether you are pro-life or pro-choice. If you don’t believe that abortion is murder then why wouldn’t you believe that a woman has a right to choose? If I wasn’t a devoted Christian and I didn’t believe that every child, inside or outside of the womb, had purpose, then I would be pro-choice as well. If you don’t believe abortion is murder, what would be the purpose in trying to outlaw or reduce the amount of abortions performed? This is not a matter of the government impeding on women’s rights, it’s a matter of individual morals & values.
If you believe that abortion is murder then you should be pro-life across the board, otherwise you have a conflicted value system. Let me preface by saying rape is a horrible thing, but it’s no excuse to take a life. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with aborting a child. If you believe that abortion is murder, I would presume that regardless of the cause you are still going to be against destroying a human life. If this is your belief, a rape victim aborting her child would be NO DIFFERENT from a husband killing his wife. Take a woman who was raped and became pregnant. Would you believe that this woman should be able to go next door and shoot her neighbor in the head as a result of being raped? I hope not. If you believe that the fetus in this woman’s belly is a child, then there would be no difference between these two actions. If this is your stance, abortion is not a woman’s right to choose, because after all, does the government allow citizens to kill their neighbors? Nope.
It is true that not everyone in the United States is Christian. Not only are there many other religions, but we also have our fair share of atheists. For an atheist, there would be no reason to believe that abortion is morally wrong. It would remain only as a woman’s choice. Then again, if there is no God and this world was created out of “random” causes, then there would be no purpose for life, which, in turn would COMPLETELY take away any type of moral/value system. Why not do drugs? Why give to the poor? Why fight for human rights? Pleeeeease, someone tell me what the purpose of righteousness is when there is no purpose in life. There definitely wouldn’t be anything wrong with committing suicide, after all, what is the point of living if there is no point? So, what determines what is “good” and “bad”? Oh wait, I think I got this…..It’s the government.
